Mako Madness
Tournament July
26th & 27th 2003

*

The 5th Annual Mako Madness tournament this weekend had 32 boats and 81 anglers entered with a record payout $ 38 750.00 to winners Sunday night.
The tournament success was again attributed to both the successful format having both a catch and release division. There were a total of 183 fish released for the two days and 7 fish weighed in. The Format provided entrants options to release
or keep their fish. The release division paid out $ 3000.00 to the winning team for the most released accumulated over the two days.

The entry fee of $ 150.00 qualified each angler an opportunity to win the truck which was drawn on Sunday evening at the dinner and Wesley Carey of the Team Osprey was drawn and the truck given away.

Saturday all the boats left the harbor after a mandatory 3.00am visual to run to their fishing locations. Teams are not permitted to have any lines in the water until start fishing at 6.00am each day. Within minutes after start fishing the hooks up started and continued throughout the day with the better bite coming in the afternoon. Immediately Capt William Clark of Team Dream Weaver were leading the way with several releases finishing Saturday with 8 confirmed releases followed closely by Captain Jon Petty of Team Fish n Gold. There were as many fish lost by the teams.  All released fish are required to have a picture taken with the tournament provided camera's and confirmation code to validate the release and fish to qualify for the $ 3000.00 in the release division.

As the bite picked up the teams started to call in that they had boated their fish on Saturday and we had  fish brought to the scales by Team PE, Team My Marie, Team Dream Weaver, Team Psyc o - Fish, Team Osprey, Team Guido Margarita and Team PiIlar

The release division was a neck and neck race between Team Dream Weaver, Capt. Bill Clark and Team Fish N Gold, Capt Jon Petty and after reviewing the official tournament camera's Team Fish n Gold's Capt Jon Petty had 12 released fish and Team Dream Weaver had 11 released fish and one boated fish. The outcome would have been very different had Team Dream Weaver released the boated Mako since in the event of a tie the first fish caught and released would have qualified and Team Dream Weavers first released fish was before Team Fish N Gold's Team Dream Weaver would have won the release division. The call to boat a legal fish by Dream Weaver was a good one since they were in all the daily Jackpots and the history of the tournament 100 - 1026 lbs fish has taken the top places and dailies.

Overall winners and taking 1st Place for the biggest fish both days went to team PE - Capt Bob Hummel with the 1st Place perpetual trophy and check in hand.
