Press Release : Dana Point, CA 23rd July 2007 The 9th Annual Mako Madness tournament success was again attributed to both the successful format having both a catch and release division. There were a total of 94 fish released for the two days and 6 fish weighed in. The Format provided entrants two divisions/options to release or keep their fish over the required min weight of 100 lbs. The release division paid out $ 3000.00 cash to the winning Team "Team Okuma -Captain John Bretza " for the most released fish accumulated over the two days, an amazing ( 18 fish). Team Digging Reel Deep finished 2nd with 15 released Mako's. The 2007 event proved to be a bigger challenge with this year been overcast and no good SST charts to monitor current breaks. This did not prevent First Place Team OZZ Captained by Keith Gross running 54 miles one way in search of fish which paid off with their winning fish caught Saturday of 273 lbs. This also gave Team OZZ the Daily Jackpots for the day. Sundays Jackpots: Team Ozz landed a 266 lb mako on Sunday providing them with Sunday's jackpots and earning them a second place as well for this fish. Third place team Hooked Up weighed in a 149 lb mako on Saturday which held third place after a close Challenge by Team Okuma with a 133 lb fish Sunday to take 4th Place overall. There was a shotgun start at 6.00am each day. Within minutes after start fishing the hooks up started and continued throughout the day with the better bite coming in the afternoon. The release division was neck and neck with Team Okuma 9 releases, Team Unforgiven 7 Releases,Team Dirty Deeds and Total Chaos with 5 releases. There were fewer fish lost by the teams this year as in previous years and released fish are required to have a picture taken with the tournament provided camera's and confirmation code to validate the release and fish to qualify for the $ 3000.00 in the release division.
