The Offshore Billfish Challenge
- The 100% all
tag and release Billfish Challenge big money event is long due for
the West Coast. This two day event is based on a points system for
released billfish towards the grand prize and cash. This new formatted
tournament will accomplish several important things. Two of which are that
it will demonstrate a clear commitment on behalf of the tournament towards
marine concervation and the protection of the many billfish species, while
providing our anglers a possibility of winning a big purse for teams who
traditionally shy away from tournaments that are not all release can now
take part. Prizes - The $550 000.00 will be the largest cash purse ever offered for tagging and releasing billfish on the West Coast in sportfishing history. As an added bonus to the tournament there is a division offering $2000.00 for the largest Tuna, Yellowtail and Dorado. First released - fish each day will earn $ 2000.00 to the first team who successfully tag and release their fish each day Format - The tournament format will require all teams to use the tournament supplied camera to document their releases and record them on the tournament supplied release forms supplied by the tournament. Each team member will be required to sign the release affadavit at the end of the tournament. There will ba a special sponsored award for the best release picture of the tournament. The tournament has both Top Lady Angler and Top Junior angler divisions as an added bonus. Early Team Entry - All teams who send in their entry fee before 1st June 2004 will be placed in a drawing at the Capatins meeting and a drawing will take place whereby the lucky team drawn will win a free $2000.00 entry to the tournament. Angling Clubs - Angling clubs may enter 10 teams each for the Angling Club prize. These teams will be eligible for the $5 000.00 cash prize over and above the overall winnings and daily jackpots. This will be awarded to the angling club who's teams accumulate the most points for their club over the two days. This cash prize will be awarded directly to the club at the banquet.
