HALIBUT RULES AND REGULATIONS



1. Entrants must comply with California and Federal Fish and Game laws. (If a fish requires measuring, it will be with the mouth closed to the inside fork of the tail)

2. All fish must be caught on rod and reel by the entrant submitting the fish. Anglers shall use IGFA methods of fishing with the following change: Trap hooks and treble hooks will be allowed if the hook is embedded into the bait.

3. All persons aboard a private boat in which a Dana Tournament entrant is fishing must be entered in the tournament. A person aboard who is not a Dana Tournament entrant will disqualify that boat and all entrants aboard that boat. This rule does not apply to public sportfishing boats.

4. Fishing is limited from the California coastline to 5 miles out (inshore). All Fish to be weighed in at Dana Fuel Dock only - no fish will be accepted at the scales via any car or transported other than the boat it was caught on.

5. All fish must be caught between 6.00am March 23rd, 2002, and 3:00 P.M. March 24th, 2002. Fish caught on any given day must be weighed in that same day caught or will be disqualified and disqualifying the team and anglers. Scales close each day promptly and no fish will be weighed after this.

6. Prizes will be awarded based upon the weight of the fish or, in case of a tie, then the first fish to be weighed in. (fish 24" or bigger)

7. Each angler may weigh in their largest fish each day to qualify, the angler's heaviest fish will be eligible for a prize. One prize per entrant. (meaning if you have two or three fish close in weight we will weigh all for you to help determine your heaviest fish and then only this fish will qualify) Fish 24" or bigger to qualify. Since the entry fee is based on each angler it is possible one boat could win more than one place based on two or more anglers qualifying fish taking a place in the standings. The reference to a team or your team would constitute all the anglers on one boat.

8. Since this is our first tournament we do not have a team competition/event.

9. The Team Captain and all anglers on the boat are responsible to know, read and understand the rules, no exceptions. ( if you have any questions please contact a committee member to discus before the start of the tournament.)

10. Only the fish weighed at the official Dana Halibut  weigh station will be eligible for a prize.

11. The Tournament will be run on the dates specified regardless of weather or sea conditions. However, if the National Weather Service issues a small craft, gale or storm warning for the California Coastline  for both days of the tournament, then the tournament will be postponed to a later date. All prizes will be awarded as if held on the original date. No entry fee will be refunded for any reason including weather.

12. All fish weighed in will be subject to identification markings and other inspections the judges deem necessary, including removal of internal or external organs.

13. The judges may disqualify an entrant or fish for violation of the rules and regulations or other reasons deemed necessary. The decision of the judges shall be final.

14. It is the prize winner’s responsibility to claim and use awards in a timely manner. The tournament will not be responsible for the availability, delivery, or utilization of prizes once they have been awarded.

15. A prize not claimed and picked up within 30 days of the tournament shall become property of the tournament

16. Entry Fees are non refundable

17. Cash & Prizes will be awarded to 1st place teams through 5th place and the entry fee divided accordingly based on the number of entrants. Prizes for the first halibut weighed in each day. Prizes for the capture and recovery of the 3 legal size tagged halibut. All entrants will be provided with the 3 tag numbers corresponding to each tag for the prize. 1st Tag halibut $ 1000.00 cash, 2nd tagged halibut Shimano Reel, 3rd Tagged halibut Custom Rod.

18. There is an optional daily jackpot of $10.00 per angler per day  for the biggest fish each day. This has to be paid prior to start fishing on Saturday 24th March where if any team members wish to enter they can see a committee member at the Dana Fuel docks in the morning before start fishing. Only that team member/entrant who has paid and provided his name can claim the jackpot prize.
NOTE *  1st- 5th placed teams or team members do all agree to undergo and submit to a full Polygraph : if asked or required by any tournament official or committee member.
Failure to submit to the Polygraph by any team or member will be an automatic disqualification from the entire tournament and ALL money/prizes forfieted.

19. The daily jackpot of $10.00 per angler, this is optional and can be paid in cash before start fishing for both days, only the angler entered into the jackpot can and will qualify for the daily jackpot prize. Come and drop this off at the Dana Fuel dock to a committee member before 6.00 am Sat 23rd March CASH ONLY

20. The tagged halibut recaptured prize will go towards the 3 corresponding tag numbers provided, 1st corresponding number will receive $ 1000.00, 2nd will receive a Shimano reel, 3rd will receive a custom rod

21. Teams can fish out of any port and leave early for their destinations provided no lines are in prior to 6.00am Saturday 24th March 2002 but all fish have to be weighed in at the Dana Point Fuel Docks on the boat that it was caught on.

22. Scales open Saturday 24th March at 3.00pm till  6.00pm and 12.00pm and 3.00pm Sunday 17th March

23. Committee members will be available on site Friday 22nd from 12.00 noon at the Dana Fuel Docks until 8.00 pm to receive entries and daily jackpot money or to address and answer any questions. Committee members will be available all day Saturday and Sunday at the Dana Fuel Docks as well as a committee boat out on the water. CASH ONLY WILL BE ACEPTED AT THE FUEL DOCKS FRIDAY

24. Tournament channel will be 19 for all awards and prizes every hour including any questions or rule clarifications. Communications between entrants is permitted provided it is done on a different channel to the tournament channel. The alternate channel will be 71 if the first channel is not functional.

25. Teams will be able to view all weighed fish, posted results each day at the Dana fuel docks.

26. The two committee boats will be the Finnseeker and the JersyBro

27. The decisions of the Tournament Staff/committee, in their sole discretion, regarding protests, eligibility of Participants or fish presented 
for entry, or interpretation of these Rules, shall be final. The Tournament Staff reserves the right to supplement and/or amend these Rules.
