Thresher One Tournament:

The first successful Thresher One newly formatted Catch and Release tournament out of Dana Point harbour saw 21 teams enter the first annual points only catch and release tournament. The entry fee was USD $ 500.00 per team with the winner take all money at the end of the tournament with the most accumulated points to win the event and the cash prize money.

Once again hosted by Finnseeker out of the Dana Point Harbour the event was conducted at Finnseekers expense as is common with all Finnseeker events with no money deducted or taken out of any of the entry fees or daily jackpots.

With the great turn out first year and the success of the Thresher One format, the event looks set to become a permanent event out of Dana Point each year. The rules are simple allowing only one fish per boat over 200 lbs earning each team 200 points plus 3 points per pound over the min 200lbs totaling towards the release Threshers. Any Thresher weighed in under the min weight would be disqualified for the day and not eligible to win any points and the money. The winning Team that accumulative the most points with the most released Threshers and or boated Thresher over the min required weight earned the total cash pay out for the Day.

The tournament started at 6.00am with a shotgun start at the beginning of the day with all boats lined up outside the Dana Point harbour break wall with smooth seas for the day, cold green water and a slight chill in the air with teams calling in their released fish early in the day. There were 11 successful released Threshers for the tournament.

Teams ran off Dana Point, The Domes, Carlsbad Canyon and La Jolla Canyon in search of fish with fish coming out of each of these areas weighed in and released.

First Place and the USD $ 10 000.00 cash went to Team Intimidator with Tim Marking, Brad Ingling and Bill Wolleson who won the Thresher one tournament with their 338 lb Thresher weighed in and releasing two other threshers for the day earning them a total points tally of 1014 points.

Second place went to Team Escape from Gakatraz with a huge 416 lb Thresher weighed and no released fish earning them a total of 848 points. Team members were Frank Gialketriz, Chris Gialketriz and Mike

Third placed team went to the Team Great Dragon  with a 323 lb Thresher weighed in and one released thresher earning them an accumulative points total of 769 . Team members were Ron Sleight, Rodrick Jackson, Tony Knutson

Fourth Place went to Team Dream Weaver with a 263 lb Thresher weighed in accumulating 389 points and no released fish. Team Captain William Clark
